“Hi, I am Anne Lewis, the owner and operator of the Primrose School of Shawnee.
I’d like to tell you about myself, my family and my Primrose Story. Growing up, my parents instilled strong family values in me that I continue to pass on to this day. One of the most rewarding things that I have ever done is raise my children! With my children being older now, I want to get involved in the community and make a difference in the world. I aim to provide the same high standard of care that I expect for my own children. This is what led me to opening the Primrose School of Shawnee. Primrose Schools provides a nurturing environment that feels like an extension of your own family.
Originally from Indiana, I graduated from Northern Illinois University and moved to Kansas. I have franchiser business experience and I have experience running a center and childcare. I understand the daunting challenges of balancing a career and family. At the school, I plan to handle the day-to-day operations, working closely with parents, children and staff. I am married to my awesome husband, Phil. I have three loving and amazing children; Alyssa, Abigail, and Dalton.
Primrose Schools strives to deliver the best and most trusted early education and care. We believe that who children become is as important as what they know. Our exclusive early learning approach balances purposeful play with nurturing guidance from teachers to encourage curiosity, confidence, creativity and compassion. Today we learned about solids and liquids and how the states of matter can change! We used apple juice and observed how it moved when we shook it. We took turns pouring it into the ice trays and making them into pops! Our summer camp explorers had an unforgettable field trip today learning all about firefighters, fire safety, and the incredible gear inside a real fire truck. The absolute best part? On our second trip to the Zoo this Summer we went and explored Africa! We had so much fun taking a train ride and then getting on the tram to Africa. Soil Exploration!
Soil Exploration!🪴
Our little geologists continued their study of the Earth by learning about soil! Last week, we learned about rocks. This week, we learned how weathering breaks rocks into smaller pieces and some of those pieces are carried away to different places like into the soil! Soil is not just one thing, it’s a mixture of many things!

Pathways modeling dough sensory play! The students strengthened their hand grip and exercised their fine motor skills by creating different shapes with the modeling dough. They worked on creating a ball, snake, and rolling the dough flat! They were encouraged to explore different textures and create something they loved! #PrimroseProud

Caring and Giving Event!
The results are in: our school donated 526 canned goods to our local Harvesters The Community Food Network during the 2025 #CaringandGiving Food Drive! Centers and Small group Literacy!!
The Transitional Kindergarten class learned about kindness and different words that can show kindness! They each chose different words to write in their kindness heart. At the math center the students looked at play money and practiced counting and writing them on white boards! Such a great day!❤️🤩 #PrimroseProud
Native American History Month!
Honoring Native American Heritage Month! For our first lesson of the month we talked about Native Foods and Gratitude in our older classrooms and Drum & Dance in our younger rooms!
The younger classrooms looked at pictures of Native American drums and listened to a song sample featuring drumming and flute sounds! The students practiced their own drums sounds with the music!
The older classrooms learned about how the Native Americans were the first farmers of this land and that they grew corn, beans, and squash. These three foods are called the “Three Sisters” because they grow close together and help each other grow! The students explored each different food and then used corn on the cob to create art by painting the corn with fall colors and rolling it across their paper!

Kansas City Zoomobile
The Kansas City Zoomobile brought the zoo to us! They taught us about all different kinds of animals that are at the zoo and ways that they are cared for. They even brought some fun animal friends along to share with us! For example, we saw snakes, hissing cockroaches, and an armadillo! The students had the opportunity to gently touch the snake using a scientific method to be sure to keep the snake safe! During this unit of learning the students learned about living and nonliving things with an emphasis on animals! The students participated in an excited activity of watching caterpillars go through their life cycle and turn to butterflies! Our butterflies are ready to fly away! Even our brains need a good warm-up. That’s why we enjoy Noggin’ Joggin’, where students participate in activities to get their brains ready for a full day of fun and learning. Our students are learning about sense of sight and eyes! We learn about how we use our eyes to see! The students were shown a close up picture of their classmates eyes and they took turns guessing whose eyes they were! We also read "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" by Eric Carle/Bill Martin Jr. and talked about all the colors and animals we could see! #PrimroseProud
Visit from the Shawnee Police Department!
Thank you so much to Officer Cole and Officer Bayless for coming out to the Primrose School of Shawnee and educating us on what it means to be a police officer! They showed us materials that they use everyday on the job! We even got to look inside of a police car! Spring has Sprung!
Spring has sprung! Yesterday was the first day of spring and we spent it learning about all things spring! We played a flower matching game, learned about insects, played spring bingo and more!🌷🪴🪻🪷 #PrimroseProud
Recycled Artwork!
We were inspired to create art using recycled materials. We used our imagination to bring our creativity to life and look at our trash in a new light! We created jellyfish, robots, flowerpots, bird feeders, binoculars, flowers and more🤖🪼🌷🌎♻️
Small Group Math!
Small Group Math! The Pre-Kindergarten students created patterns such as ABAB patters and AABAAB patterns! They used the mittens made out of felt to create their own unique pattern. The students worked together and labeled the patterns by the number of mittens they used! 
Pre-Kindergarten Circle Time!
The students in our Pre-Kindergarten class read the book "If You Give A Moose A Muffin" by Laura Joffe Numeroff! During this week of learning we focused on all things responsibility, what the word means and ways that we can be responsible in our day to day life!
Infant Wonder Time Activity!
The infant room is working on tracking toys with their eyes and reaching for them with their hands! We love engaging and working with students to help them learn!

Are all staff members background-checked and CPR/first-aid certified?
Yes. Every Primrose staff member undergoes a thorough background check before joining our school. All staff are also CPR and first–aid certified, so you can feel confident your child is in safe, prepared hands every day.
What curriculum or educational philosophy do you follow?
Our school uses the proprietary Primrose Schools Balanced Learning® curriculum, which is research-informed and designed to nurture the whole child — intellectually, socially, emotionally and physically. We believe in balancing teacher-guided learning with purposeful play to build a strong foundation for the future.
How do you support school readiness and the transition to kindergarten?
All of our programs are designed in age-appropriate ways to prepare children for kindergarten and beyond. We focus on early literacy and numeracy as well as social-emotional skill development — so children arrive at kindergarten confident and ready to thrive. 96% of Primrose Schools Pre-K students met ASQ benchmarks for problem solving.*

We are open Monday through Friday from 7:00 am-6:00 pm.
